A prayer for more
I have recently enjoyed reading again from The Valley of Vision, a collection of Puritan prayers and devotions. The old writings are both convicting and encouraging. They constantly present a high view of God and express in vivid terms a deep sense of unworthiness of the least of his mercies.
It may seem strange to post "a prayer for more" on Thanksgiving Day, but may this serve as a helpful reminder that -- in the midst of all the thanks we are offering to God, and the contentedness for which we are striving -- we are to have an insatiable hunger for more of God and of God-likeness!
Surely we can all join in this prayer:
May his shed blood make memore thankful for thy mercies, more humble under thy correction, more zealous in thy service, more watchful against temptation, more contented in my circumstances, more useful to others.
