Nothing too hard for God

Is anything too hard for the LORD? Gen. 18:14

Like Sarah, Abraham's wife, we are sometimes apt to laugh at the thought that certain of God's promises can be fulfilled. Of course, also like Sarah, we are similarly prepared to deny our reluctance to take God at his word. But if you don't think this is true of you, just take Romans 8:28, "All things work together for good to them that love God," and apply this to any number of circumstances in or around your life, past or present. How many times do we tell ourselves that there is no way God would ever allow or cause _______ to happen to us? That there is no way this would come about under the purpose and providence of the God who is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent? Even if we might not explicitly say such a thing, we certain feel it.

But just like in the case of the patriarch and his wife, God's promises always come true, and they always work out for his glory and the good of his people. He really is omnipotent; there really is nothing too hard for the Lord. And for that reason we have every reason to rest well tonight and to face an uncertain future with confidence, for the God of Abraham still sits on his throne to bring about all the good promises of his good word.
