Facing Temptation
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it – 1 Corinthians 10:13
Although this verse is speaking of every kind of trial or testing through which we may pass, it certainly includes, and applies to, temptations toward sin.
No sinful temptation comes your way that has not been faced by thousands before you. You may feel as though you are the only one who battles such wicked thoughts, or who struggles with despair, or who wrestles with unbelief. But there is no temptation you face that has not been successfully overcome by others.
And this success is no accident — God is faithful, throughout your life, to keep you from facing temptations that are beyond your strength. If he allows a temptation into your life, he will certainly make a way to escape unscathed from its clutches.
So, dear believer, bear up under the temptation you are facing. Look, not to its deceitful promises, but to the way of escape that is there for you. It is not beyond your ability, with God, to overcome it decisively.
