The Just Shall Live By Faith

The Just Shall Live By Faith
/

"That no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith" (Galatians 3:11).

Paul earlier asserted that "those who are of faith are blessed" -- not just more blessed than pagans, enjoying a little more freedom and happiness than unbelievers, but as opposed to those who are cursed.

Now Paul further describes these two different people groups -- one cursed and one blessed. But it is not good people versus bad people; or even church members versus non-church members. Paul is speaking to church-going, Christ-professing people! And he says to them: those who are just in the sight of God live by faith, not in their own works but in the work of Christ in their place, as their substitute.

A life of faith resembles the law, then, not because we are keeping it to be saved, but because we are depending on Christ, whose perfect character is reflected in the law!
