Just how BIG is this God?
This Sunday I began a series for our p.m. services entitled Just How Big Is This God? In a culture that is exponentially increasing in our estimation of ourselves, our view of God has been declining at a more rapid pace still.
The tragedy of this upside-down, bottom-heavy understanding of our place in the world is that we no longer have any consolation, any solution, any salvation that is bigger than ourselves. And as we daily discover as humans -- in spite of the hollow reassurances of our humanistic culture -- we are not big enough to satisfy our own needs. So, in our rush to improve ourselves and to remove our God, we have ironically done neither.
Thomas AKempis spoke accurately when he said, "God alone satisfies."
It is only when we see God as He is, that we will correctly view our own place in this world. And it is only when we see our own place in this world that we will find the great joy, the great consolation, the great satisfaction that can only come from this great God.
Thomas AKempis spoke accurately when he said, "God alone satisfies."
Over the course of the next several days, I intend to post several thought-provoking, perspective-stretching videos (which I have randomly and gratefully collected off the web) that emphasize the bigness of God. May a glimpse of His bigness fill us, by faith, with a sense of His worthiness and sufficiency.
