Father's Day
Introductory remarks by Lasserre Bradley, Jr., at Cincinnati Primitive Baptist Church, Sunday June 20th, 2021.
Todays is Father’s Day. To be a father is a blessing and to have a God-fearing father is a blessing.Psalm 127:3-4, “Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man, so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them.”
This in contrast to a recent article in the New York Tmes which celebrated the declining birthrate and carried an article that suggested it is morally and ecologically wrong to have children in this day. Yet, God said in Genesis 1:28, “Be fruitful and multiply.”
God’s plan for the family brings blessings to those who submit to his instructions. The father is God’s appointed head of the family. He is to love his wife; love, teach and discipline his children. He is to bring his children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
God commands children to honor and obey their father and made a promised blessing to those who do so. In this day when the structure of the family is under attack and the proper role of the father is often criticized, we need to give thanks for godly fathers; pray for them and encourage them.
