The Sacrifice of the Only Son

The Sacrifice of the Only Son
/

Have you ever felt that God promised you one thing, and then gave you another? If you have ever felt that way, you will be sympathetic to the test that Abraham faced from God in Genesis 22. God had called Abraham to follow him into a strange land, promising to give the land to Abraham’s abundant descendants. Then Abraham had wandered for 25 years before God finally gave him a single son Isaac. But then God actually comes to Abraham and asks him to sacrifice Isaac! It must have seemed that God had promised one thing and was now giving something totally different. Yet as we will see, Abraham learned – as we often have too – that when God does not give us what we expect, it is because He has something even greater in store for us than we ever could have imagined.
