Joseph's Brothers Travel to Egypt

Throughout his trials and imprisonment, Joseph displayed a remarkable faith in God. But, as we will see today in Genesis 42, Joseph’s family responds to far less severe external circumstances with far less trust and strength, and therefore far less rest and peace. This makes the reader ponder: which situation has actually been worse? Joseph as a slave-prisoner in Egypt, or his family in relative freedom and prosperity? In Genesis 42 we are reminded that there are worse prisons than those by which others may constrain us: the worst kinds of prisons are those which we make for ourselves.
