He Leads Me Beside Still Waters

Green pastures and still waters. This is a beautiful picture of calm security and nourishing food, of real rest and solid sustenance.But it doesn't seem as though God's people always enjoy such peaceful, restful experiences. In what way is the tortured martyr, the exhausted single parent, the grief-stricken widow, the struggling sinner – each of whom is trusting in and following their Shepherd Jesus Christ – being lead by still waters?In fact, these very troubles point us to the peaceful, perfecting work that is through Jesus Christ and to his glory. Real rest is found in Christ, and solid sustenance is feeding on Him! If you have Christ then you have the best, and only good, that God has to offer!
