Give Us Our Daily Bread

In a day like our own, with multiple copies of the Bible sitting on everyone’s shelf or coffee table, and available free on every device, a memorable encapsulation like the Lord's Prayer is just as helpful as ever.We tend to lose perspective, we tend to get warped in our priorities, as we try to live out our faith in the midst of a world that is living out their faith in very different gods: personal achievement, fame, financial success, or even religious zeal.We need constant, daily reminding of what matters to God, and what therefore matters forever. Because if there is an eternal God, then surely he knows what things are truly best for our souls, longest lasting in their pleasure, greatest in their reward. And nothing could be more basic, yet realigning, for us today than the request, "Give us this day our daily bread."
