Assurance, Joy, & Victory

John writes his first epistle with at least three specific, stated goals for his readers. John writes in order that they (and we) have 1) assurance of salvation (5:13), 2) complete joy (1:4), and 3) victory over sin (2:1).It is wonderfully surprising to be told that these things are even possible in a fallen world! And not only are they possible, they are promised if we pay attention to, and apply, John’s teaching.How could we not be interested in what John has to say? John is writing for your soul’s sake!
