Our History

The Baptist Bible Hour started on one station in the Cincinnati area, in 1953.

PreachingThe most popular television show then was I Love Lucy, and the most popular movie was The Robe — a biblical epic about a Roman centurion who is converted to Christianity and martyred for his faith. It was in 1953 that Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed for treason, and that Joseph Stalin, murderous Soviet dictator directly responsible for the deaths of over 10 million, died.

Today Desperate Housewives and The Da Vinci Code reflect the interests and morals of our western culture, and evil has assumed different, even darker masks. But the same gospel of Jesus Christ, and the same Bible that has influenced history for thousands of years, is just as relevant and just as needed as ever.

In the 1950s, the delivery opportunities and media were vastly different than today. The Baptist Bible Hour has evolved, from first recording on reel to reel, to a completely digital message than can be burned to CDs, downloaded to MP3 players, and even emailed around the world!

In addition to high-tech media, however, we also offer timeless resources including books on topics such as Christian living, marriage and family, church life, facing temptation, and comfort in times of trouble. For some good, old-fashioned worship check out our CDs of classic hymns of the faith.

Since 1953, the Baptist Bible Hour has also published the Baptist Witness, a monthly periodical that builds around a particular biblical theme in each issue. Whether exegeting a passage of Scripture, examining a biblical personality, or outlining the major themes of a book of the Bible, every issue is packed with helpful, devotional meditations from God’s Word.

Our desire is to equip the people of God, in an ever-changing world, with the never-changing Word.

We plan to continue reaching and teaching, and we invite you to walk and grow along with us.
