A Look In the Mirror, pt 1

“For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in as glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was” (James 1:23-24).
As we begin this new year, it is a good time to be looking intently into the mirror of God’s Word.
As you look, you are shown what you are by nature — a sinner in need of grace through Christ Jesus.
Second, God’s Word shows you what you ought to be — one who loves and obeys God. The first commandment, according to Jesus, is to love the one true God with all your heart, soul, strength, and might.
And third it shows you what you can be. Though you may be discouraged by failures of the past, you can find hope of victory in the days ahead by full dependence on Jesus Christ the author and finisher of your faith.
