Joy in Trials, pt 2

“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing” (James 1:2-4).

We first observe the certainty of trials. James says “when” not “if” you fall into trials.

And he speaks of diverse temptations. Trials are of many varieties and in this message we look at some of the biblical examples.

Although it seems strange that we would be admonished to rejoice in our trials, James gives us the reason for doing so: there is purpose in it all. Here is where many people miss the point. If they can see no immediate or material gain through their trial, they can see no benefit. But we learn here that the benefit is spiritual maturity. You are to let patience have her perfect work, continue faithful through the trouble, and you will grow toward maturity, lacking nothing.

Knowing that God is at work and has a purpose in our trials will enable you to rejoice even when circumstances do not warrant it. So join us for this encouraging message, in the midst of your discouraging times.
