“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).
What good news! A savior will be born. And he was born of the virgin and his name was Jesus.
It was a name given by divine appointment. It was a name with meaning. It was the right name because Jesus came to save sinners. It is a name that speaks of grace because fallen sinners were unable to save or help save themselves but Jesus does save. It is a name that speaks of victory because when he went to the cross he was successful in redeeming his people.
It is a name that speaks of peace because he is the Prince of Peace. He gives peace to sinners when he saves them and peace to his people in the midst of their trials. Someday he will give them perfect peace forever. What a wonderful name is Jesus!
