A Psalm for the Seasons of Life, pt 1

Psalm 71

We see first in this psalm that David acknowledges God was his help from his youth.

In fact he says God was his help at the time of his birth: “by thee have I been holden up from the womb: thou are he that took me out of my mother’s bowels: my praise shall be continually of thee” (verse 6). Then in verse seventeen David recounts the fact that God had taught him from his youth.  No doubt God had used David’s parents and others to teach him, but he recognized that the Lord had been his instructor from his early days.

Not only did the Psalmist find instruction in the testimonies of God, but he was also taught by divine providence. In defense of his father’s sheep, he killed a lion and a bear and learned “the battle is the Lord’s.” With this knowledge he was able to enjoy victory over Goliath. He learned from the hatred of Saul, the love of Jonathan, and the rebellion of Absalom.  He learned from the opposition of his enemies and from his seasons of loneliness.

Join us as we learn from David the lessons he learned from God!
