This is what it means to be held

Posted by: Justin on June 21, 2008

This song by Natalie Grant has humbled and encouraged many saints over the past few years, in the midst of painful trials and heartaches. My wife and I were blessed by it while passing through the challenges and uncertainties of adoption, and I was reminded of it as I prayed for several friends who are facing personal struggles and sorrows right now.

It is the great and overarching comfort of this world to know that our God is in control and that nothing has come to us unless it has first passed through the loving hands of His wise providence.

My personal favorite is the searching question in the second stanza:

Who told us we’d be rescued?
What has changed and why should we be saved from nightmares?
We’re asking why this happens
To us who have died to live?
It’s unfair. This is what it means to be held.
