“Thou has rebuked the proud that are cursed, which do err from thy commandments…Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors” (Psalm 119:21 & 24).
In this eight verse section of Psalm 119 we see some great things: Great Expectations, verse 17; Great Vision, verse 18; Great Need, verse 19; Great Desire, verse 20; Great Rebuke, verse 21; Great Enemies, verses 22 & 23; and Great Help, verse 24.
Today’s message focuses on verse 21, Great Rebuke. History confirms that God has rebuked the proud. He brought down Pharaoh, Nebuchadnezzar, Herrod and others from their mighty seats. The Scriptures confirm that God even hates a proud look and that He resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. We can see this in the lesson of the Pharisee and the publican. The Pharisee who boasted in himself was rejected while the humble prayer of the publican was heard. In the matter of our own salvation we learn that we can glory only in the Lord for we have no righteousness to plead.
