My Heart Is Fixed (pt 2 of 2)

sftp-vol2c.gifby Lasserre Bradley, Jr.

“My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise” (Psalm 57:7).

David begins this Psalm asking God to be merciful to him in the time of his calamities. He describes those calamities as facing those with tongues like swords and those who had prepared a net to entrap him. But he declares that although his afflictions are great his heart is fixed, because he is trusting in God. He is taking shelter under God’s wings and trusts the God of his salvation Who performs all things.

May we so learn to trust in the Lord that we can say, “My heart is fixed” even in the most difficult of times — when the way is dark, when others are departing, when we are inclined to please men rather than God, when facing discouragements and when facing temptations. Let us say with David that, since my heart is fixed, I will praise the Lord of glory.
