By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents… and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment – Hebrews 11:23
Can you imagine how horrified the Israelite mothers were when they learned that Pharaoh had ordered every newborn son to be put to death? But one godly woman, the mother of Moses, had the courage and faith to hide her son for three months. When she could no longer hide him, she prepared a little basket and placed him in it by the river’s bank. It was at that point, when she had done all she could, that she saw providence beautifully unfolding on her behalf.
Pharaoh’s daughter comes to bathe and discovers the basket. Rather than calling for the soldiers to kill the baby, she has compassion on him. She takes him home to live in the palace of the very man who had ordered his death, and—what’s more—hires Moses’ mother to be his nurse! Someone might say it was a stroke of luck that Pharaoh’s daughter found Moses, or that it was a lucky thing that she did not harm him. But we recognize it was not luck, but God sovereignly working to protect Moses and bless his faithful mother.
